Beach Road House
Architect: Sally Draper Architects
Photography: Marnie Hawson
Stylist: Belle Hemming of Belle Bright Project
Scope: New construction
The brief provided to the architect for this new dwelling in Shoreham was to draw inspiration from historic, industrial style inner-city buildings using a combination of new and old materials that sit seamlessly alongside one another. The architect successfully met the brief and elevated it by incorporating red bricks and Ironbark timber cladding on the exterior of the home. Rural brick dairies were used as an inspiration for this enhancement that provides more character than an inner-city feel. The ‘old but new’ box was well and truly ticked towards the end of the project when several people asked, ‘what was this old joint previously?’. Complementary materials were used throughout the inside of the home including concrete bench tops, Blackbutt polished timber floor and Tasmanian Oak ‘v grooved’ timber cladding.
